Honorees for the 2024 Father Benedict Groeschel Award Gala

Dr. Gregory Bottaro, PsyD

Dr. Gregory Bottaro, PsyD is a clinical psychotherapist based in Greenwich, Connecticut, known for work integrating Catholic spirituality with modern psychotherapeutic practice. Prior to becoming Founder and Executive Director of the CatholicPsych Institute, “Dr. Greg” used to accompany Father Benedict Groeschel, CFR in his travels. Dr. Greg worked for years with the homeless and has spent years in rural missions with Movin’ in the Spirit in the mountains of Haiti, including helping construct an orphanage. He offers workshops, retreats, a podcast, and a Certification Program aimed at developing healthy habits, including for those who are post-abortive. He is supported in his work by his loving wife Barbra, and his proudest achievements are his seven children. The author of The Mindful Catholic: Finding God One Moment at a Time, Dr. Greg’s commitment to promoting life makes him a worthy recipient of the Father Benedict Groeschel Award.


Thomas G. Kolenberg, KM

Mr. Thomas G. Kolenberg is a graduate of UCLA and has lived in Stamford Connecticut for over fifty-years as an active member of the community. He is a Senior Vice President and Senior Financial Advisor at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In the past he served as the President of the Board of Directors for the I Have a Dream Foundation, established for the academic advancement of inner-city children, served as President of the Advisory Board for Catholic Family Services of Stamford, was a member of the Board of Directors for the Diocese of Bridgeport Catholic Charities, the Diocese of Bridgeport Foundations in Charity, Malta House of Norwalk, and was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 41. In 2000 he was also recognized by the Boy Scouts of America for his contributions and support of inner-city scouting.

He was recognized by Merrill Lynch as the 2002 recipient of the Merrill Lynch Lifetime Community Achievement Award. In 2011 he was a recipient of the John Cardinal O’Connor Award by the Sisters of Life for serving the needs of homeless mothers and their children. He is also a Knight of Malta dedicated to serving the needs of the sick and the poor, is a member of the Board of Directors for the Monks of Norcia Foundation, and is a member of the Board of Directors for Good Counsel Homes. He currently serves as Chairman for the Carmelite Sisters Foundation of the Diocese of Bridgeport. In October 2023 Pope Francis bestowed upon Mr. Kolenberg papal honors – with the Cross Pro- Ecclesia Et Pontifice for his distinguished service to the Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Kolenberg and his wife Olga reside in Stamford and have two daughters Isabella and Sarah who are also with us today.
